Lucas, Frank, and Shade met for breakfast at an Eat and Go. Frank looked at Lucas and smiled. “My boy, you look like you got you some last night. That 30069 girl?”
“Guess you couldn’t let her go without knowing the finer things in life huh?” Shade said as he wiped the table with a napkin and activated his computer.
Lucas shook his head. He fought against the smile that crept across his face. “Shut up. You make it sound cheap.”
“Oh,” Frank leaned back in his seat. “I forgot. You actually think it’s love.” He laughed. “You know they disproved the idea of love years ago. It’s nothing more than a chemical reaction of serotonin in combination with hormonal responses. But if you want to justify it by calling it love I suppose that’s your call.”
“People have been doing it for years.” Shade said. “Since the beginning of time probably. They’ve been using the thing called love to justify all kinds of things. Wars, rampant sex, theft, murder. You name it, it’s been done in the name of love.”
“Yeah, I know,” Lucas said. “You have to take a course on it when you go into the medical field. There are all kinds of chemical reactions that take place in the body that used to be untraceable. It wasn’t until the medical community started working together that they discovered the myriad of combinations that produced the love reactions. Kind of like taking a warehouse of ingredients and over time discovering how to make different kinds of foods without ever having a recipe.”
“Ah, but recipes are what we do here.” The waiter walked up to the table with his order tablet in hand. “And how are you gentlemen doing today?”
